Dewi steps to first tee in Indonesian Ladies Amateur Open<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Consistent play from the moment she stepped on
\nto the first tee yesterday gave Dewi Suhartati the day's best
\nscore, 78, and the lead by two shots after the second round of
\nthree in the Indonesian Ladies Amateur Open at Cikarang Golf and
\nCountry Club near here.<\/p>\n
Dewi, from Deli Golf Club, Medan, carded a 40 on the front
\nnine. This included three bogeys, a double bogey on the 8th plus
\na birdie on the 3rd.<\/p>\n
The five-handicapper, whose hometown hit the headlines around
\nthe world last week because of the Garuda airplane accident in
\nwhich all 234 on board were killed, returned home with a 38,
\nconsisting of three bogeys, one birdie and five pars.<\/p>\n
Overnight leader Diana Soewandi was relegated to joint fifth
\nplace with Neneng K, both on 161. Diana scored a fine even par 36
\nover the first nine holes. However, homeward bound she flooded
\nher score card with a 48 for an 84, a shadow of her first round
\n77.<\/p>\n
Neneng, from PGB Bandung, recorded an 80 yesterday. Neneng,
\nwho played for West Java in the last National Games, carded an 81
\non the opening day of the annual championships on Wednesday
\nin which the players compete for the Srikandi Cup.<\/p>\n
Two strokes behind the leader is Jane Supriadi from Pondok
\nIndah Golf & CC on 158 (80 78). Jane went out in 40 and returned
\nhome in 38, which kept her in the second place she finished the
\nfirst day despite all the movement around her.<\/p>\n
Elly Mulani who is playing under the banner of Jakarta Golf
\nClub, the host of the first Indonesian Ladies Open in 1978, is
\nplaced third on 159 (77 82).<\/p>\n
Elly hit a double bogey and a single bogey in the front nine
\nfor a 39 and came in in 38, with a birdie on the 12th and three
\nbogeys.<\/p>\n
Jakarta Golf Club has won the Srikandi Cup seven times since
\n1984, six years in a row from 1986 to 1991. Thailand took the
\nprestigious trophy in 1978, 1980, 1981 and 1985.<\/p>\n
A field of 120 golfers teed off yesterday for the Kartini Cup
\ncontested over 36 holes. Tuti Supardi from Pondok Indah Golf Club
\ntake the lead with a net score of 69.<\/p>\n
Second was Tuti's club colleague Jane Supriadi with a net
\nscore of 70 and joint third were Ika and Sri Daud Yudarana, both
\nfrom Surabaya, on 71.<\/p>\n
Young players<\/p>\n
In Bandung, West Java, Indra Hernawan from Pondok Cabe
\nextended his lead after yesterday's third round in the Indonesian
\nPro Golf Association championships for young players, with a
\nscore of 227 (83 72 72).<\/p>\n
Six strokes behind Indra, who has won three titles in the
\nseries, was Suprapto from Malang with a three-day score of 233
\n(81 79 73). Suprapto won the event when the series made a stop at
\nTaman Dayu golf course near Malang, East Java.<\/p>\n
Nine shots further back, in third place, was Alga Topan after
\ncarding a total score of 236 (83 78 75).<\/p>\n
The field, which was limited to 23 young golfers from across
\nIndonesia, is being played at Bandung's best golf links, the par-
