Developer's negligence criticized<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Representatives of PT Modernland Realty Ltd.,
\nthe developer which has been repeatedly warned by city
\nadministration for its failure to build public and social
\nfacilities worth Rp 1 billion (US$454,545), failed to show up at
\nthe City Council.<\/p>\n
Councilor Banjar Marpaung told reporters at City Council
\nyesterday that none of the developer's officials, which were
\nsummoned, turned up.<\/p>\n
The company, which is located in Cakung, East Jakarta, has
\nneglected it obligations to build social and public facilities
\nincluding schools, a football field and a mosque.<\/p>\n
In a related development, Ratih Ratna Purnami, a councilor
\nfrom the Indonesian Democratic Party, deplored the city
\nadministration's decision in canceling the revocation of building
\npermits issued to PT Summarecon.<\/p>\n
\"The developer should give away the public and social
\nfacilities to the government as required by the municipal
\nadministration,\" she said. \"It is all the more so since PT
\nSummarecon, as a major housing developer, received a certificate
\nof appreciation directly from President Soeharto for its
\nparticipation in constructing the Bidara Cina apartments
\nrecently. They (the company) should set examples for other
\ndevelopers to follow in their footsteps.\"<\/p>\n
Last week North Jakarta Mayor Suprawito revoked building
\npermits of the developer for its failure to comply with a bylaw
\non building social and public facilities in each of the housing
\ncomplexes a firm builds. (31)<\/p>",
