Developers get environment-friendly awards<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The central government on Monday granted awards
\nto 12 developers in Greater Jakarta (Jabotabek) for their roles
\nin helping protect the environment at their respective housing
\ncomplexes.<\/p>\n
Presented by Minister of Settlement and Regional Development
\nErna Witolear and State Minister of Environment Soni Keraf, the
\nRumah Lestari (Eternal Home) awards were given out to mark World
\nEnvironment Day, said Dhonny Rahajoe of the Indonesian Real
\nEstate Developers Association (REI), one of the 17 coordination
\nteam members for the contest.<\/p>\n
\"Actually, the awards were to be presented in October last
\nyear on World Habitat Day. Since there's been significant
\nreorganization in the state administration, the event could not
\nbe carried out until today,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The awards, the second batch to be presented after 1997, are
\ndivided into four categories, namely for low-price housing
\ncomplexes, small, medium and vast complexes.<\/p>\n
Most of the winning projects are located on the outskirts of
\nthe capital, such as in Bekasi and Tangerang.<\/p>\n
The team of 11 juries came from different professions,
\nincluding Tjuk Kuswartoyo and Suparti A. Salim from Bandung's
\nInstitute of Technology, Dedes Nur Gandarum from Trisakti
\nUniversity and Agus Pambagio from Indonesian Consumers Foundation
\n(YLKI).<\/p>\n
In the first category, first prize went to Villa Bekasi Indah
\nII followed by Mutiara Bekasi Jaya and Griya Bukit Jaya
\nrespectively. The second category for small housing complexes was
\nwon respectively by Griya Tugu Asri, Jatiwarna Indah and Cibinong
\nGriya Asri.<\/p>\n
First place in the medium housing complex category went to
\nGading Kirana, Kemang Pratama and Citra 2.<\/p>\n
Bumi Serpong Damai for the second time came first in the big
\nhousing complex category. Second and third places were taken by
\nCikarang Baru and Telaga Kahuripan respectively.<\/p>\n
\"We're glad that our efforts in implementing the concept of
\nenvironmentally sound development have been acknowledged by the
\ngovernment and all those involved in selecting the winners,\"
\ncommented Budiarsa Sastrawinata, an executive of the 1,400-
\nhectare Bumi Serpong Damai housing complex.<\/p>\n
\"It's not merely about reward,\" Budiarsa said.<\/p>\n
One of the complex's environmentally friendly projects is the
\nrecycling of waste collected in Bumi Serpong Damai, which
\ncurrently has some 14,000 houses and a number of shops, offices,
\nplants and schools, he said.<\/p>\n
According to Dhonny, the selection for the second biennial
\ncontest held jointly by REI and the two ministries occurred in
\nAugust last year.<\/p>\n
\"We invited some 1,000 people who had their housing projects
\nin the greater Jakarta area. But only 90 developers could meet
\nthe requirements. Of the number, only 25 names were in the final
\nselection,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The organizers, Dhonny said, are considering the possibility
\nof allowing developers to register their projects located outside
\nJabotabek in the contest. (bsr)<\/p>",
