Detained foreigner on hunger strike<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH: An American nurse on trial in the Indonesian
\nprovince of Aceh for an immigration offence has gone on hunger
\nstrike to protest at the slow pace of the proceedings, her lawyer
\nsaid Thursday.<\/p>\n
\"This hunger strike was begun by Joy on Wednesday afternoon
\nbecause she was really disappointed that the judge will only
\nresume the trial on December 19,\" said lawyer Rufriadi Ramli
\nreferring to Joy Ernestine Sadler, 57.<\/p>\n
Ramli said she would drink water but eat nothing, adding that
\n\"her health condition is worrying.\"<\/p>\n
On Wednesday Sadler told AFP she is HIV-positive and
\nterminally ill. She fears her trial will drag on until Christmas.<\/p>\n
Sadler and her travelling companion, British academic Lesley
\nMcCulloch, have been detained since September 11 when security
\nforces stopped them in the south of the province.<\/p>\n
They are both on trial for visa violations but McCulloch says
\nshe believes her detention is related to articles she has written
\non Aceh for Asian newspapers. --AFP<\/p>",
