        "content": "<p>Destry Damayanti, candidate for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI), is\ntaking a different approach to the central bank\u2019s Rupiah Securities\n(SRBI) policy if elected.<\/p>\n<p>This was conveyed by Destry during a fit and proper test with\nCommission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on\nWednesday (26\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur SRBI policy is that we will focus SRBI on transmitting interest\nrate policy so that market rates ease,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>SRBI was previously used as an instrument to attract foreign funds\ninto the country, as a measure to stabilise the rupiah exchange rate.\nSRBI even offered yields above government-issued Government Securities\n(SBN).<\/p>\n<p>The move drew widespread criticism, both from the DPR and academics.\nSRBI was considered to have dried up market liquidity because it\nabsorbed banking funds.<\/p>\n<p>This will be corrected by Destry going forward. Since serving as\nActing Governor of BI, Destry has already reduced SRBI issuance with the\naim of maintaining liquidity in the financial market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur SRBI rate is declining, outstanding has fallen to Rp1,050\ntrillion, this is being gradually reduced to add liquidity and keep\ninterest rates under control as well as align with our overnight rate,\u201d\nDestry stressed.<\/p>",
