        "content": "<p>The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has stated that\nallegations of extortion and the receipt of bribes related to the\nprocessing of stay permits for Foreign Nationals (WNA) are still\noccurring, even following sting operations involving officials from the\nMinistry of Immigration.<\/p>\n<p>KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that these practices are still\nbeing carried out by certain immigration officials, particularly at\nregional immigration offices (Kanim). \u201cEven though this investigation is\ncurrently underway at the KPK, there are still individuals who maintain\nfixed rates for the approval of immigration services at the Kanim\nlevel,\u201d he said on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Budi explained that these practices prompted the investigation team\nto conduct a series of searches, most recently at the Central Jakarta\nand South Jakarta Immigration Offices. It was reported that during the\nsearch of the South Jakarta Immigration Office, 8,500 Singapore Dollars\nwere discovered in the office of the Head of the Immigration Office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe KPK subsequently conducted searches in several immigration\noffices suspected of continuing similar practices,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>However, he acknowledged that some regional offices have ceased these\nextortion practices following the sting operation involving the Deputy\nMinister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim. \u201cBut\nthere are also offices that have indeed stopped doing that,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n<p>For context, the KPK has named eight suspects in connection with the\nsting operation regarding foreign national stay permits within the\nMinistry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas). One of\nthe officials involved is the Deputy Minister, Silmy Karim. The KPK\nalleges Silmy\u2019s involvement dates back to his tenure as the Director\nGeneral of Immigration. Based on investigation results, Silmy is also\nalleged to have received Rp100 million every week from the proceeds of\nthis extortion.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects in this case are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><p>Silmy Karim, Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional\nServices 2025-2026 and Director General of Immigration\n2023-2024;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Saffar Muhammad Godam, Acting Director General of Immigration\n2024-2025;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Jaya Saputra, Head of the West Java Regional Office of the\nDirectorate General of Immigration and former Director of Stay Permits\nand Immigration Status;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Tessar Bayu Setyaji, Head of Sub-directorate for Change of Stay\nPermit Status at the Directorate of Stay Permits and Immigration\nStatus;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Bagus Bramantyo, Head of Sub-directorate at the Directorate of\nStay Permits;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Ronald Arman Abdullah, Head of Central Jakarta Immigration Office\n2024-2025 and Head of West Jakarta Special Class I Immigration Office\n2025-2026;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Juniadi Sri Priambudi, Head of the ITAS Status Change\nTeam;<\/p><\/li>\n<li><p>Gusti Benardiansyah, Staff of the Stay Permit\nSub-directorate.<\/p><\/li>\n<\/ul>",
