Deputy National Police Chief Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo has
received the ‘Visionary Leader of National Security’ award from the
Faculty of Law at Sultan Agung Islamic University (Unissula). The award
was presented directly by Unissula Rector Prof H Gunarto during a visit
to the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta.

Gunarto stated that the award was given as academic recognition for
Wakapolri Dedi Prasetyo’s visionary leadership in driving institutional
reform within the Indonesian National Police. He noted that Dedi has
successfully strengthened human resource quality, transformed police
education, developed scientific policing, and built strategic
collaboration between the police institution and universities as a
foundation for strengthening the national security system.

“The Faculty of Law Unissula bestows the award of The Visionary
Leader of National Security upon the Deputy Police Chief because we
assess that he has succeeded in presenting a new paradigm in the
development of the Police institution. The reform of police education,
strengthening the quality of human resources, developing scientific
policing, transforming STIK-PTIK towards a Police University, and
establishing a network of Police Study Centres with universities are
visionary steps that show national security must be built on the
foundation of science, research, and innovation,” Prof Gunarto said in a
statement on Wednesday (8/7/2026).

Gunarto explained that visionary leadership is not only about
answering today’s challenges but also preparing the institution to face
future changes. He said what the Deputy Police Chief has done is a
long-term investment for the birth of a police force that is more
professional, adaptive, humanist, and capable of responding to global
security dynamics through collaboration with the academic world.

Under the coordination of the Deputy Police Chief in the field of
organisational development, the police organisation is currently
carrying out various strategic reform agendas. These include the
development of a Digital Leadership Laboratory at the Police Staff and
Command School to shape adaptive leaders in the digital era, the
construction of a Social Laboratory at the Police Academy as a vehicle
for implementing scientific policing, the transformation of STIK-PTIK
towards a Police University, the establishment of Police Study Centres
with 77 universities across Indonesia, curriculum reform oriented
towards human rights, leadership, and public service, and improving
investigator competence through a national certification programme.

He said the transformation is directed at strengthening the police’s
ability to face contemporary security challenges, including handling
cybercrime, protecting women and children, eradicating human
trafficking, and improving the quality of science and technology-based
police services.

On the same occasion, the Deputy Police Chief expressed his
appreciation for the trust given by the Faculty of Law Unissula. He
stated that the award is an honour for all police personnel who continue
to be committed to institutional transformation.

“The transformation of the Police cannot be done alone. We need
partnerships with universities so that every policy, education system,
and law enforcement effort is increasingly based on research and science
and is able to answer the needs of the community. Academic collaboration
is an important part of building a more professional, modern, and
publicly trusted Police force,” said Commissioner General Dedi.

Furthermore, Commissioner General Dedi was invited by Unissula to be
the keynote speaker at the International Seminar on the Protection of
Women and Children and the Eradication of Human Trafficking, which will
be held on 30 July 2026. The international forum will feature delegates
from 18 countries across five continents to discuss strategies for
handling transnational crime, particularly those related to the
protection of women, children, and human trafficking. Dedi welcomed the
invitation and emphasised that international collaboration with the
academic world is an important part of strengthening the Police’s
capacity, especially to face increasingly complex and cross-border
crimes.
",
