Traffic flow on the main return-to-hometown route of the Trans-Java\ntoll road remained smooth during the initial phase of Operation Ketupat\n2026. Vehicle volumes started to increase, but vehicle movement on\nseveral major toll sections remained stable.<\/p>\n
Deputy National Police Chief General Dedi Prasetyo conducted direct\nmonitoring through aerial patrol from Jakarta to the National Traffic\nCommand Centre at Cikampek on Saturday, 14 March 2026. The monitoring\nwas conducted to assess the flow of vehicles departing Jakarta towards\nvarious return-to-hometown destinations.<\/p>\n
Dedi stated that traffic conditions on several major toll sections\nremained manageable until the Central Java region.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarlier we observed monitoring of several toll sections from\nCikampek, Cirebon, up to the Central Java border at Kalikangkung. Even\nthrough the Ngawi exit in East Java, conditions remained very smooth,\u201d\nsaid Dedi.<\/p>\n
Monitoring also covered routes to Merak Port, which serves as the\nmain access point for crossings to Sumatra. Vehicle flow towards the\nport remained relatively smooth in the early stages of the\nreturn-to-hometown period.<\/p>\n
To maintain smooth travel for returning passengers, officers had\ndiverted heavy vehicles in the Cilegon area. Three-axle vehicles were\ndirected off the toll road onto arterial roads to maintain optimal toll\nroad capacity for returning passengers.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt Merak, specifically at the Cilegon exit, diversions have already\nbeen implemented, particularly for three-axle vehicles leaving the toll\nroad for arterial routes,\u201d said Dedi.<\/p>\n
The National Traffic Police also prepared various anticipatory\nmeasures should vehicle volumes increase during certain hours. One\nscenario prepared was the implementation of traffic engineering\ninvolving contraflow.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis contraflow is being prepared and anticipated three hours before\nthe discretionary measure is implemented,\u201d said Dedi.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the National Traffic Police also prepared\nimplementation of one-way systems should vehicle volumes increase\nsignificantly on the main return-to-hometown route.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen traffic flow through Cikampek exceeds 6,000 vehicles per hour,\none-way engineering and other traffic arrangements will be implemented,\u201d\nsaid Dedi.<\/p>\n
Monitoring of return-to-hometown traffic this year was strengthened\nthrough utilisation of traffic monitoring technology, including the use\nof drones to monitor points not reached by CCTV cameras along the\nreturn-to-hometown route. The drones are connected to a mobile command\ncentre that can move in line with vehicle flow dynamics in the\nfield.<\/p>\n
\u201cDrones are also important. Earlier there were two types of drones\nused by traffic control,\u201d said Dedi.<\/p>\n
Dedi assessed that preparations for managing return-to-hometown\ntraffic this year were more mature thanks to support from surveillance\ntechnology and integrated monitoring systems. Traffic patrol personnel\nwere also equipped with body cameras to monitor field situations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my assessment, we are far better prepared. In addition to mobile\ncommand centre technology, equipped with drones and electronic traffic\nenforcement using drone-based enforcement, we have significantly\nimproved capabilities,\u201d said Dedi.<\/p>\n
The National Police also prepared information services for the public\nduring the return-to-hometown journey. Returning passengers can contact\nthe National Police emergency service 110 if they experience\ndifficulties during their journey.<\/p>\n
Previously, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo\nannounced that Operation Ketupat 2026 would run for 13 days, from 13 to\n25 March 2026. A total of 161,243 combined personnel were deployed to\nsecure the return-to-hometown traffic flow and celebrations for Eid\nal-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.<\/p>\n
