Malang, East Java (ANTARA) \u2013 Deputy Minister for Higher Education,\nScience and Technology Fauzan has urged universities to develop\nsolutions to help resolve problems faced by local areas, beginning with\na thorough process of identifying those problems.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach university should examine the problems in its area and identify\nwhat they are. From there, universities are expected to get directly\ninvolved in addressing them,\u201d Fauzan said after attending the Living Lab\nSummit 2026: National Seminar and Living Lab Exhibition in Malang, East\nJava, on Friday.<\/p>\n
He said local problems vary in complexity and therefore require\nappropriate approaches to resolve them. Universities\u2019 involvement in\nfinding solutions to local challenges is part of implementing the Kampus\nBerdampak (Impactful Campus) initiative.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiven the intensity, quality and quantity of problems in local\nareas, I think that is the way to approach it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Fauzan said the Living Lab Summit 2026 was intended to strengthen\nuniversities\u2019 role and increase their contribution to addressing\nproblems in local communities.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Brawijaya University Rector Professor Widodo said\nuniversities had a responsibility to explore, develop and apply\nknowledge appropriately to help address local problems, particularly\nissues central to communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey also provide the public with skills to develop products such as\ncorn, among other things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, he said local problems could not be resolved through one or\ntwo activities alone, but required sustained efforts.<\/p>\n
