Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Creative Economy Irene Umar is\nencouraging the growth of an entrepreneurial spirit among young people\nto drive Indonesia towards becoming an advanced economy and to support\nthe development of a sustainable creative economy ecosystem.<\/p>\n
She noted that according to the World Bank, Indonesia needs around 10\nto 12 per cent of its population to be entrepreneurs, with at least 4\nper cent as a starting point to become a developed nation. Currently,\nIndonesia\u2019s position is slightly below that figure.<\/p>\n
\u201cEntrepreneurship is not just about owning a company; the definition\nof an entrepreneurial spirit is about having a sense of ownership,\nresponsibility, and doing every job with a clear purpose,\u201d Irene said in\na statement received in Jakarta on Monday.<\/p>\n
The Ministry of Creative Economy views strengthening entrepreneurship\nfrom a young age as a crucial foundation for building a sustainable\ncreative economy ecosystem.<\/p>\n
To support the development of entrepreneurial talent in Indonesia,\nthe Ministry is backing the development of creative young talent with an\nentrepreneurial spirit, as demonstrated at the culmination of the\nPrestasi Junior Indonesia (PJI) programme. Since 2011, PJI has equipped\nmore than two million young Indonesians with workplace skills, financial\nliteracy, and the ability to build sustainable businesses.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Executive Board of PJI, Pribadi Setiyanto, explained\nthat all PJI programmes are developed through an experiential learning\napproach that provides participants with direct experience.\nAdditionally, PJI offers opportunities to connect with mentors and\nvolunteers from the business world so that learning remains relevant to\nthe needs of the workforce.<\/p>\n
According to Pribadi, the flagship Student Company programme gives\nsenior high school and vocational school students the opportunity to\nestablish and manage their own companies. Through this programme,\nparticipants not only learn to develop products but also to build\nbusiness models, lead teams, manage finances, understand customers, and\nface real business challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver 20 years of implementation in Indonesia, the Student Company\nprogramme has reached more than 18,000 students and spawned 845 student\nbusinesses. For the 2025\u20132026 period, the development of participants\u2019\nbusiness ideas is focused on four strategic issues: circular economy,\nhealthy lifestyles, climate change, and local heritage,\u201d Pribadi\nstated.<\/p>\n
PJI is part of JA Worldwide, a global non-profit organisation focused\non entrepreneurship education. In this year\u2019s event, 45 teams competed\nuntil nine top teams were selected at the senior high school and\nvocational school level. Two of the best teams will represent Indonesia\nat the Asia Pacific entrepreneurship competition.<\/p>\n
