Makassar (ANTARA) - Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister for Women\u2019s\nEmpowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), hopes that protection and\neconomic improvement for women and children begin at the village level,\nby formulating programmes through village development planning\nconsultations (Musrenbang).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that integrated protection for women and children must start\nfrom the village. This is what we are pursuing through Musrenbang, how\nministerial programmes from Musrenbang truly adopt a gender\nperspective,\u201d she said in Makassar, South Sulawesi, on Friday.<\/p>\n
When speaking about integrated services for child protection in\nIndonesia, she stated, it cannot be left solely to the District\/City\nIntegrated Women\u2019s Empowerment and Child Protection Services Unit (UPTD\nPPA) level, but can be brought to the village.<\/p>\n
This means, Veronica explained, many women are now the backbone of\nthe family, so they need to be facilitated with accurate data through\nMusrenbang so that programmes enter planning for women and children to\nimprove their economy or reduce stunting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s why, the Ministry of PPPA actually wants to collaborate\nthrough women\u2019s community local food gardens, stitched together with the\nPresident\u2019s food self-sufficiency programme,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In addition, how to integrate from that community garden to process\nlocal chicken farming from local to local. This programme is more about\npermaculture or a farming design system based on natural ecosystem\npatterns and characteristics.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, it doesn\u2019t damage the environment, doesn\u2019t harm the natural\nsurroundings, but from the existing land, we can grow local vegetables,\nand of course, why there must be animals, fish, and so on, because we\nreturn the ecosystem to achieve zero waste,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, how livestock feed and water from fish ponds can become\nfertiliser again. How this cycle can be made into a platform for\ncommunity gardens, while also educating through parenting to\nfamilies.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must start from upstream to raise public awareness about what\nnutritious food is like. Don\u2019t exchange fish for instant food, don\u2019t\njust feed children until they\u2019re full, when we have fish potential and\nother plant potentials,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
According to her, the end result of violence that occurs or parents\nharming their children, even selling their own children, is because\neconomic pressure is the root cause. There is family burden, poverty\nburden, quarrels, to very minimal education.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is what we must stitch together from the President\u2019s priority\nprogrammes, which can connect to our smallest unit in the village. So\nthat it can be data-recorded, we get accurate data, we include women as\nthe endpoint, because many of them are already the backbone,\u201d she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Therefore, she stated, the most important thing is that the village\nhas innovations on how to translate Musrenbang and Village-Owned\nEnterprises (BUMDes) in the village budget into one platform,\naccommodating or providing child protection and women\u2019s empowerment\nincluded in planning.<\/p>\n
Thus, this becomes an integrated unit platform to become an\nadministrator protecting children.
