Deputy Interior Minister Bima Arya Sugiarto has praised the sustainable, community-based environmental management practices in Jambon Gesikan Village, Magelang City, as an exemplary model worthy of replication across Indonesia. The initiatives include waste banks, recycling, composting, maggot production, urban farming, and converting used cooking oil into soap, all underpinned by strong collaboration between local government and residents. Bima hopes this approach will set a national standard for measurable and sustainable environmental management, starting with wider adoption in Magelang before expanding elsewhere.

Deputy Interior Minister (Wamendagri) Bima Arya Sugiarto is
encouraging the replication of sustainable, community-based
environmental management practices implemented in Jambon Gesikan
Village, Magelang City. The model is deemed suitable for development in
various regions. “This is one of the best examples of residential area
arrangement with environmentally friendly and sustainable principles.
The village is very clean; this is what is meant by ASRI (safe, healthy,
clean, beautiful). It must be like this,” he stated in a written remark
on Friday (17/4/2026). Various innovations are applied, from management
through waste banks, recycling, to utilising waste into compost,
maggots, urban farming, and used cooking oil processed into soap. During
the inspection of the village, Bima explained that the success of the
area arrangement is inseparable from the collaboration between local
government (Pemda) and the community. He highlighted the active
involvement of regional heads in monitoring and motivating residents, as
well as the role of environmental managers who maintain the consistency
of the management system at the community level. Furthermore, Bima
explained that the environmental management in the area has been running
in an integrated manner from upstream to downstream. “Hopefully, this
can become a role model,” he said. He assessed that the good practices
need to be expanded gradually while maintaining the quality of
implementation and encouraging all areas in Magelang City to adopt a
similar pattern before replicating it to other regions. “192 must be
like this,” he added. In the future, Bima hopes that every region can
have measurable and sustainable environmental management standards, so
that it can become a national reference in strengthening community-based
environmental management. For information, the inspection carried out on
Thursday (16/4) was also attended by Mayor of Magelang Damar Prasetyono,
Head of Magelang City Police Resort (Kapolres) AKBP Dikri Olfandi, and
the Chairman of RW IV Jambon Gesikan Village.
",
