Deputy Home Minister Ribka Haluk accompanied Deputy Public Works\nMinister Diana Kusumastuti on an inspection of several strategic\ninfrastructure developments in South Papua Province. The visit on\nWednesday (16\/7) aimed to ensure the acceleration of development remains\non target, covering the construction of the government centre area,\nwater resources infrastructure, irrigation networks, and coastal\nprotection to support public services and development in the new\nautonomous region (DOB).<\/p>\n
The series of activities began with a review of the construction of\nthe DOB-Netto Bridge access road, which serves as the main route to the\nSouth Papua Central Government Area (KPP). Based on field reports,\nconstruction progress has exceeded the target and is projected to be\ncompleted ahead of schedule. Responding to this development, Haluk\nreminded that the acceleration must be accompanied by good work\nquality.<\/p>\n
\"This progress deserves appreciation. The most important thing is\nthat the quality of work is maintained so that the public can\nimmediately benefit from connectivity to the Central Government Area,\"\nHaluk said in a written statement on Thursday (16\/7\/2026).<\/p>\n
Haluk and Kusumastuti then attended a coordination meeting at the\nSouth Papua Governor\u2019s Office to discuss the acceleration of the KPP\ndevelopment. During the meeting, Haluk stressed that the central\ngovernment continues to push for the KPP in the four new autonomous\nregions in Papua to be designated as National Strategic Projects\n(PSN).<\/p>\n
\"We are fighting together with the Minister of Home Affairs and\nCommission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives so that the KPP\nof the four DOB in Papua can be included as National Strategic Projects.\nThe fiscal capacity of the new provinces\u2019 regional budgets is still\nlimited, so support from the state budget is very necessary,\" she\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Following the meeting, the group inspected the construction of the\nSouth Papua Governor\u2019s Office, the South Papua Regional House of\nRepresentatives (DPR) Office, and the South Papua Papuan People\u2019s\nAssembly (MRP) Office. According to Haluk, the construction of\ngovernment buildings must lead to improved public services.<\/p>\n
\"The presence of government buildings is not just about physical\nconstruction, but about ensuring public services become faster, easier,\nand closer to the community,\" she stated.<\/p>\n
The inspection continued to the Efata Mayo Reservoir, which is\nprojected to become a raw water source for the KPP while also supporting\nthe agriculture and tourism sectors. Afterwards, the group reviewed the\nWaninggap Irrigation Area to ensure the readiness of irrigation\ninfrastructure to support the rice field printing programme and\nagricultural land optimisation in Merauke Regency.<\/p>\n
Regarding this, Haluk assessed that water resources infrastructure\ndevelopment is a crucial factor in strengthening national food\nsecurity.<\/p>\n
\"The potential of this reservoir is enormous. If developed in an\nintegrated manner, its benefits are not only for providing raw water but\nalso for strengthening food security and encouraging community economic\ngrowth,\" she said.<\/p>\n
Towards the afternoon, the group inspected the construction of\ncoastal erosion protection at Lampu Satu Beach, which functions to\nprotect the coastal area from abrasion.<\/p>\n
\"Coastal protection is very important to safeguard settlements,\ninfrastructure, and the economic activities of coastal communities. Its\nhandling must be carried out in stages according to the level of\nurgency,\" she said.<\/p>\n
The series of visits concluded at the Merauke Time Capsule area.\nAccording to Haluk, the area holds historical value as well as tourism\npotential that must be maintained through infrastructure rehabilitation,\nadditional lighting, and the handling of vandalism.<\/p>\n
