        "content": "<p>Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Ribka Haluk is\nencouraging the involvement of more native Papuans (OAP) as field data\ncollectors for the 2026 Economic Census in Papua. According to Ribka, a\nsocially and culturally sensitive approach will facilitate the data\ncollection process, especially in areas with complex geographical and\nsocial characteristics. \u201cWhen recruiting human resources to collect data\ndown to the district level, there must be a special policy; native\nPapuan children need to be appointed to prevent rejection,\u201d Ribka stated\nin a written statement on Monday (6\/7). She made these remarks during a\nvirtual meeting with the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS)\nfrom the Ministry of Home Affairs office in Jakarta. Ribka explained\nthat the success of the census relies not only on field officers but\nalso requires full support from local governments and all stakeholders.\nShe therefore requested that the census be carried out in close\ncollaboration with governors, regents, and the Regional Leadership\nCoordination Forum (Forkopimda) in Papua. Furthermore, Ribka encouraged\nthe adoption of a proactive outreach strategy, similar to that used by\nthe Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen\nDukcapil), to reach communities in underdeveloped, frontier, and\noutermost (3T) areas. She emphasised that data accuracy is vital as it\nwill form the basis for formulating various development policies,\nincluding the distribution of the Special Autonomy Fund (Otsus), the\nSpecial Allocation Fund (DAK), and other government programmes targeting\nthe Papuan people. Ribka also highlighted the importance of updating\ndata to reflect the real state of welfare in Papua, noting that accurate\ndata is needed to objectively measure the impact of government\ndevelopment interventions. \u201cIf we remain like this, and data from year\nto year still shows Papua as poor despite government interventions, the\npublic will perceive that the Indonesian government has not intervened,\u201d\nshe asserted. On the other hand, Ribka also expressed appreciation to\nBPS for the synergy established in supporting national data provision.\nShe affirmed that the Ministry of Home Affairs will continue to provide\ntechnical support, assistance, and strengthen cross-sector coordination.\nThrough these efforts, it is hoped the 2026 Economic Census will produce\naccurate, high-quality, and accountable data. \u201cTogether with the\ntechnical team from the Directorate General of Dukcapil and the\nDirectorate General of Regional Development, I will always be ready to\nprovide support until we produce the required census data for 2026,\u201d\nRibka said.
