Deputy Minister of Environment Diaz Hendropriyono is urging intensified waste sorting at the source to meet the government's target of eliminating open dumping practices across Indonesia's 472 final disposal sites by the end of July. This initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to achieve 100% waste management by 2029, potentially raising the current 26% rate to 57.7% upon completion. During the "North Jakarta 100% Waste Sorting Declaration" event, appreciation was extended to Rorotan sub-district residents for their exemplary sorting efforts, supported by government aid including drop points, sorting bins, and kitchen waste bins, positioning the area as a model for other communities.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Environment (Wamen LH) Diaz
Hendropriyono is encouraging the intensification of waste sorting
practices at the upstream level ahead of the complete cessation of open
dumping at all final disposal sites (TPA) across Indonesia. In a
statement confirmed from Jakarta on Sunday, Wamen LH Diaz said his side
is promoting several efforts to increase waste management targets, one
of which is sorting from the source. “Without sorting, waste management
cannot be completed properly. In addition, we will close open dumping
practices at the end of July, so in August the 472 existing TPAs will be
resolved,” he stated. At the “North Jakarta 100% Waste Sorting
Declaration” held at the Rorotan RDF facility in Cilincing, North
Jakarta, on Saturday (18/4), Wamen Diaz conveyed that with the target to
end open dumping TPA practices in July, it is hoped that waste
management achievements can be improved in line with President Prabowo
Subianto’s directives. “This sorting programme is in line with the
President’s directives, which aim for 100% managed waste by 2029. By
ending open dumping practices, we can raise the current waste management
percentage from 26% to 57.7%,” he said. At the declaration event, Wamen
Diaz expressed appreciation to the residents of Rorotan sub-district who
attended for having implemented the waste sorting programme well. In
particular, he highlighted that sorting practices using buckets and
waste bank facilities are already available to ensure that only residue
ends up at TPAs or RDFs. With those steps, he hopes Rorotan sub-district
can serve as an example or model for other sub-districts implementing
the sorting programme. “Hopefully from Rorotan, it can become a pilot
for the other 30 sub-districts in North Jakarta, so that all can sort
waste properly,” he explained. Previously, the Ministry of Environment
and Forestry (KLHK/BPLH) had provided several supporting aids to Rorotan
sub-district residents in their waste sorting efforts, including 400
drop points, 12,000 sorting buckets, and 650 kitchen waste bins
(Losida).
",
