Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Creative Economy Minister Irene Umar stated\nthat the Lunar New Year Festival 2577 \u2014 Harmoni Imlek Nusantara \u2014 aims\nto showcase the harmony of Indonesia\u2019s diversity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to present the harmony that exists beneath the Ramadan moon.\nSo friends can come here to the Lunar New Year Festival and witness the\nbeauty of Indonesia, the diversity of Indonesia that is represented\nhere,\u201d said Irene when met in Jakarta on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Irene, who also serves as General Chairwoman of the National Lunar\nNew Year Committee, said the festival offers the public an opportunity\nto learn about the cultural acculturation between Chinese and Indonesian\nheritage. This can be experienced through various engaging interactive\nactivities open to all visitors.<\/p>\n
Through historical collections, visual art, interactive installations\nand multimedia narratives, the open museum illustrates how the Lunar New\nYear has evolved to become part of Indonesia\u2019s social and cultural life,\nserving as a meeting ground across communities and enriching the\nnation\u2019s diverse cultural heritage in a manner that is open to all.<\/p>\n
Visitors can also enjoy a range of performances from lion and dragon\ndances to traditional Chinese costumes. Additionally, various food and\nbeverages are available at SME stalls located beside the main stage.<\/p>\n
The market is designed as a space for cultural and economic\ninteraction open to all, providing opportunities for local business\noperators to display and sell their products to the wider public, whilst\nadding to the festive atmosphere through a variety of local flavours and\nproduct innovations.<\/p>\n
Irene also noted that the diversity on display extends to wellness\nstalls, where visitors can access relaxation services or experience\ntraditional Indonesian massage.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, Irene conveyed that the government is targeting\nbetween 5,000 and 10,000 visitors. However, she predicted that\nattendance would exceed expectations given Lapangan Banteng\u2019s proximity\nto Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am quite confident it will surpass the target because the overflow\nfrom tarawih prayers alone will certainly bring more people here. That\nis why we have made the venue quite large and it is an open field \u2014 why\nnot enclosed? So that inclusivity is not merely something we talk\nabout,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
The Lunar New Year celebration, which coincides with the holy month\nof Ramadan, is hoped to serve as a space for interfaith reflection\namongst religious communities and the wider public.<\/p>\n
The festival programme includes a Lantern Festival, Culinary Market,\nArts and Creative Fair, Open Museum on Chinese Cultural Acculturation,\nfree health checks, and various film ornaments from \u201cJumbo\u201d to \u201cPelangi\ndi Mars\u201d.<\/p>\n
