Surabaya (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the Surabaya Regional People’s
Representative Council (DPRD) Arif Fathoni has urged residents to
immediately report to their local RT when leaving their homes for Eid
homecoming. “If they are leaving their residences, they must report to
the RT, and then the RT head can mobilise security personnel in the
neighbourhood to conduct daily monitoring of objects left empty by their
occupants during homecoming,” Fathoni said when contacted in Surabaya on
Wednesday. He also advised the public not to be negligent when preparing
to leave, such as turning off electricity in the home to avoid short
circuits. “For business owners, I hope that when closing their shops,
they consult with local community security personnel,” he said. He noted
that Surabaya residents are accustomed to collectively paying for local
siskamling services to guard their properties daily against potential
security and public order disturbances during homecoming. “So I think
this has been running well so far; hopefully, residents who are
homecoming can relax and gather with relatives in their hometowns,” he
said. He added that homes left empty in Surabaya are also securely
guarded by siskamling officers who engage in mutual cooperation. “I also
hope that colleagues from Satpol PP, BPBD, and linmas conduct regular
patrols for potential security disturbances, public order issues, or
ecological disaster risks,” he said. The Surabaya City Government stated
that the annual homecoming tradition is always accompanied by a surge in
public mobility. During this period, many residents leave Surabaya for
their hometowns, while others continue activities within the city.
Assistant for Government and Public Welfare of the Surabaya City
Government, M Fikser, conveyed that Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi will
issue advisory letters to the public, particularly for those planning to
homecoming using private vehicles. “The Mayor will issue advisory
letters to Surabaya residents, one of which is to ensure that vehicles
are in good condition before travelling,” Fikser said. He stressed that
vehicle readiness is a crucial factor in supporting travel safety.
Therefore, the public is urged to conduct inspections or servicing of
their vehicles beforehand. “In addition to ensuring vehicles are in
prime condition, residents are also asked to pay attention to the
security of homes they will leave. Electrical installations and water
channels need to be checked to prevent potential disruptions while the
home is unoccupied,” he said.
",
