        "content": "<p>The Depok City Government in West Java has allocated a subsidy budget\nof Rp36 billion sourced from the regional revenue and expenditure budget\n(APBD). This measure is taken to waive education costs for tens of\nthousands of students who are not accommodated in state junior high\nschools and must attend 52 private junior high schools spread across\nDepok City. The allocated assistance targets grade 7 students with a\ntuition subsidy (SPP) amounting to Rp250,000 per month, equivalent to\nRp3 million per year for each student. This was confirmed by Depok Mayor\nSupian Suri to Media Indonesia at his residence in the Cilodong area,\nDepok City, on Saturday (20\/6). He stressed that the Depok City\nGovernment is obliged to cover the tuition fees of tens of thousands of\nstudents who did not pass the state school selection. This programme is\nfocused on private schools that are affordable within the regional\nbudget. \u201cThe Depok City Government ensures this step is taken to\nguarantee the right to education for families in need,\u201d he said. Supian\nemphasised that this programme is a form of the Depok City Government\u2019s\ncommitment to providing equitable education services in Depok City. The\ndisbursement of funds has been carried out through a memorandum of\nunderstanding (MoU) in June 2026, with the main focus on assisting\nstudents attending private educational institutions. \u201cThe tuition\nassistance is used to cover education costs that have been a burden for\nparents, especially in private educational institutions,\u201d he added. He\nurged parents not to worry. Children attending private schools are\nguaranteed to receive operational assistance to replace tuition fees\nduring their education at the school. \u201cWith this assistance, students\nfrom underprivileged families still have the opportunity to attend\nprivate institutions without being burdened by tuition fees,\u201d he\nstressed. Supian Suri explained that for elementary school graduates who\nregistered for state junior high schools but did not pass the selection\nfor their four school choices, the city government still provides a\nfurther opportunity. \u201cThey can choose a private school after the\nannouncement of the new student admission selection (SPMB),\u201d he said.\nThrough this free school programme, Supian hopes to have a tangible\nimpact in reducing the dropout rate due to economic factors in Depok\nCity. \u201cThe Depok City Government wants children to continue their\neducation, whether in state or private schools. Our commitment is to\nrealise equitable development in the education sector and ease the\nburden of education costs for students,\u201d he stated.
