        "content": "<p>Jakarta \u2013 Social media activist Permadi Arya, alias Abu Janda, has\nspoken out after being reported to Bareskrim Polri over alleged hate\nspeech involving ethnicity, religion, race, and group (SARA). He was\naccused of insulting the people of West Sumatra (Sumbar). In response to\nthe report, Abu Janda denied insulting West Sumatrans as alleged.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I do not insult the people of West Sumatra, but if the basis is\nhatred towards Abu Janda, it\u2019s difficult; even if I don\u2019t insult, it can\nbe perceived as such,\u2019 Abu Janda told reporters on Wednesday, 27 May\n2026.<\/p>\n<p>However, Abu Janda declined to comment further, only responding in\nthis manner regarding the report filed against him.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the Ikatan Keluarga Minangkabau (IKM) officially reported\nAbu Janda to Bareskrim Polri over alleged SARA hate speech. The report,\nregistered as LP\/B\/230\/V\/2026\/SPKT\/Bareskrim Polri dated 26 May 2026,\nwas received by Bareskrim.<\/p>\n<p>IKM stated that Abu Janda\u2019s remarks had offended the people of West\nSumatra, particularly the Minangkabau ethnic group, causing concern.\nDefrizal Djamaris, IKM DPP\u2019s Vice Chairman for Law and Human Rights,\nsaid: \u2018We are specifically referring to the people of West Sumatra, the\nMinangkabau ethnic group. Today, the DPP of Ikatan Keluarga Minang has\nformally filed a police report against the suspect, Permadi Arya, alias\nAbu Janda,\u2019 at Bareskrim Polri headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, 26\nMay 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to Defrizal, the report relates to a speech by Abu Janda\nallegedly made abroad, in the United States. \u2018The basis of this report\nis a speech that was allegedly made in a place of worship, likely\noverseas, possibly in the United States, perhaps in Philadelphia,\u2019 he\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>In the disputed speech, Abu Janda reportedly referred to West Sumatra\nas an intolerant region and its people as \u2018bar-bar\u2019, which sparked\nstrong reactions from the Minangkabau community.<\/p>",
