Dengue strikes again<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja is warning Jakartans
\nof the spread of dengue fever and asking them to take precautions
\nagainst the epidemic.<\/p>\n
\"The best way to eliminate the fever is to clean up mosquito
\nbreeding places. This is an endemic disease, no vaccine
\nor medicine can cure it. We need more hospitals to better serve
\nthe public,\" he said over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The governor made the remark while attending a ceremony
\nmarking the start of construction on the Pasar Rebo general
\nhospital in East Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Suryadi said he would invite private companies to build more
\nhospitals in the city. \"But the companies are required not to
\nsolely think of making money. They also have to think of the
\nsocials functions of hospitals.\"<\/p>\n
When the widening works are completed the hospital will have
\n200 beds. The hospital provides various facilities, including
\nemergency and operation rooms, specialist clinics and
\nlaboratories.<\/p>\n
On the occasion Surjadi also installed a special team to
\nmonitor the spread of dengue fever in five mayoralties in
\nJakarta.<\/p>\n
\"We have taken several steps to prevent the disease, including
\na public presentation on the disease, epidemiology surveillance
\nand mass fumigation,\" said Justin Simatupang, an official from
