Dengue outbreak hits Padang<\/p>\n
PADANG, West Sumatra: Dengue fever epidemics are reported to
\nhave hit the city of Padang and other regions in the province,
\nclaiming at least one life and hospitalizing several others.<\/p>\n
Sources in the city said Arif, 6, of Balai Baru Sub-district,
\ndied on Tuesday of dengue due to belated medical treatment. Other
\nresidents, mostly children, were receiving intensive treatment in
\nthe city's hospitals.<\/p>\n
Residents feared the epidemic would spread quickly and
\nappealed to the local administration to take immediate action to
\ncurb the outbreak.<\/p>\n
The communicable disease attacked at least 381 people and
\nclaimed seven lives during January to June this year. It is
\nwidely found in the province's capital Padang and some regencies,
\nincluding Pesisir Selatan, Pasaman and Padangpariaman.<\/p>\n
\"It is the rainy season now and malaria and dengue fever
\nalways occurs in this season. But we have informed the public
\nabout this,\" Abdul Rival, the head of the provincial Health and
