        "content": "<p>Democracy YLBHI&apos;s top priority<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Leaders of the Indonesian Legal Aid Institute<br>\n(YLBHI) have agreed to stick to their present mission of fighting<br>\nfor greater democracy in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The foundation said that at the end of a three-day leadership<br>\nmeeting on Tuesday members agreed on YLBHI&apos;s main mission for the<br>\nnext four years, which includes the establishment of a democratic<br>\ngovernment system, free and independent institutions, and better<br>\norganization synergy.<\/p>\n<p>YLBHI said in a statement that it will fight for more<br>\ndemocratic mechanisms and more effective control by the people.<br>\nDemocracy in the country is only possible through strong civilian<br>\ninstitutions and when the people are allowed to freely organize<br>\npolitically, it added.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by the executive board&apos;s 12 members,<br>\nfour members from the caretaker board, nine members from the<br>\nadvisory board and representatives from the 16 Legal Aid<br>\nInstitutes throughout Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>The executive board is currently led by a presidium of four<br>\npeople -- Soekardjo Adidjojo, Amartiwi Saleh, Mas Achmad Santosa<br>\nand Frans Hendra Winarta -- who are filling in a vacuum that was<br>\ncreated when Adnan Buyung Nasution tendered his resignation in<br>\nOctober.<\/p>\n<p>It was Adnan who two years ago declared that YLBHI was a<br>\n&quot;locomotive for democracy&quot; that should take on more politically-<br>\ncharged cases, including human rights issues.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the caretaker board will continue<br>\nwith its task pending the results of an election for the<br>\nexecutive director position, which should be held by the end of<br>\nFebruary.
