Demo to be held against workers' rights abuses<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Some 100 workers from West Java who used to work
\nabroad are slated to gather at the Hotel Indonesia roundabout on
\nMonday in a rally to commemorate International Migrant Workers
\nSolidarity Day and as part of the campaign against violence faced
\nby migrant workers.<\/p>\n
In a statement made available on Sunday, the organizer of the
\nrally, Women's Solidarity-Indonesian Migrant Workers Advocacy
\nCommittee, stated that the action would focus on violations of
\nworkers' human rights.<\/p>\n
"In the year 2000, it was reported that some 22,000 migrant
\nworkers were deported from Malaysia, 23 were raped in Saudi
\nArabia and Malaysia, while another 116 workers were physically
\nabused," the statement said.<\/p>\n
The rally will start at 2 p.m. and be followed by a dialog to
\nbe attended by a number of social activists. (dja)<\/p>",
