        "content": "<p>Delay in WTO boss election<\/p>\n<p>PHUKET, Thailand (Dow Jones): Economy ministers from the<br>\nAssociation of Southeast Asian Nations said Saturday they were<br>\nconcerned over the delaying until this month of the selection of<br>\na new head of the World Trade Organization.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The ministers noted that the current general director&apos;s term<br>\nis scheduled to end in April 1999,&quot; the ministers, who are<br>\nmeeting informally on this resort island, said in a news release.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The ministers agreed that the selection process must be<br>\ncompleted in time and that it was in the interest of the WTO and<br>\nits membership that a timely decision be made,&quot; the statement<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>ASEAN has officially endorsed the candidacy of Thailand&apos;s<br>\ncommerce minister, Supachai Panitchpakdi, for the top WTO post.<br>\nThe economy ministers said in the statement that they believed<br>\nSupachai had the strongest support among all candidates for the<br>\njob.<\/p>\n<p>Current WTO Director General Renato Ruggiero&apos;s term runs out<br>\nthis year.<\/p>",
