        "content": "<p>Deforestation rife in Cilacap<\/p>\n<p>BANYUMAS, Central Java: More than half of a 126-hectare<br>\nconservation forest on the slopes of Selok Mountain in Cilacap<br>\nhas been destroyed by illegal loggers.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman for the Banyumas Timur forest authority Sudiman told<br>\nThe Jakarta Post on Tuesday that illegal loggers had destroyed<br>\nmore than 70 hectares of the forest.<\/p>\n<p>\"They have illegally cut down mahogany and acacia trees. The<br>\nlooting has inflicted billions of rupiahs of financial losses,<br>\njudging from the fact that each hectare has around 400 trees.<br>\nEach tree produces an average of 1.2 cubic meters of wood valued<br>\nat Rp 1 million,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Banyumas Timur forest authority controls a total of 46,200<br>\nhectares of forest.<\/p>\n<p>Another official at the office, Indiyono, said that the<br>\nthieves were local people organized by certain people.
