Tasikmalaya, West Java (ANTARA) - Defence Minister Sjafrie\nSjamsoeddin has asked the soldiers of the Territorial Development\nBattalion (Yon TP) to give their best performance in serving the\npeople.<\/p>\n
Sjafrie made the remark during a visit to Yon TP 939\/Macan Putih in\nTasikmalaya, West Java, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Territorial Development Battalion exists to serve the interests\nof the people. Because we, TNI soldiers, are the people\u2019s army. We are\nthe people\u2019s army, we were born from the people,\u201d Sjafrie told the\nsoldiers during his visit to the battalion.<\/p>\n
According to Sjafrie, Yon TP personnel must be aware that all the\nfacilities they have at the barracks are gifts from the people.<\/p>\n
He also emphasised that all the clothing and food consumed by the\nsoldiers are provided by the people.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he asked the soldiers not to become arrogant figures who\nhurt the people\u2019s feelings.<\/p>\n
While serving in the Yon TP, Sjafrie said the soldiers must deliver\npositive impacts in terms of regional security and economic\nimprovement.<\/p>\n
This, according to Sjafrie, can be achieved because the Yon TP has a\nvariety of community programmes, ranging from vegetable plantations and\nhealthcare services to local infrastructure development.<\/p>\n
Through these various programmes, Sjafrie hopes the Yon TP will not\nonly provide a sense of security but also improve the welfare of local\ncommunities.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile you are here, you must repay the people\u2019s kindness to you, so\nthat you can sit as you do now. Do you understand?\u201d Sjafrie said to the\nsoldiers.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnderstood, sir,\u201d the soldiers replied in unison.<\/p>\n
For context, the current location of Yon TP 939\/Macan Putih is only\ntemporary, as its main barracks are being built in a coastal area,\nnamely Cipatujah, Tasikmalaya.<\/p>\n
Although only a temporary site, the battalion is already equipped\nwith various facilities, from vegetable plantations for local residents\nto enjoy, to supporting facilities for the soldiers such as a kitchen\nand beds.<\/p>\n
As observed by ANTARA at the location, several vegetable gardens\ncultivated by the Yon TP soldiers were visible, including plantations of\ncorn, pak choi, aubergine and chilli.<\/p>\n
The Yon TP site covers approximately 3.5 hectares. It is estimated\nthat by 2027, all the soldiers will move to Cipatujah.<\/p>\n
There, the Yon TP will stand on a 40-hectare plot of land.
