        "content": "<p>Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has ordered a health evaluation\nfor prospective managers of the \u2018Red and White Village Cooperatives\u2019 and\n\u2018Red and White Fishing Village\u2019 programmes who are participating in\nbasic military education and training. The instruction came after five\nparticipants were declared dead due to health reasons during the ongoing\nmilitary training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the direction of the Defence Minister, the organisers have\nconducted a thorough evaluation of health aspects,\u201d said the head of the\nDefence Ministry\u2019s Human Resources Development Agency, Major General\nKetut Gede Wetan Pastia, at the ministry office in Jakarta on Saturday,\n27 June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Ketut detailed that the evaluation of participants includes medical\nsupervision, health profiling, adjustment of physical activity\nintensity, regulation of the referral system, and the implementation of\nearly detection mechanisms for participants with risk factors. The\nDefence Ministry, in cooperation with the Health Ministry, is receiving\nmedical assistance, particularly in the mitigation and treatment of lung\ndiseases and infectious diseases.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParticipants who, based on further examinations, are known to have\nspecial conditions, including pregnancy or certain medical conditions,\nthe organisers are taking steps according to the recommendations of\nhealth workers,\u201d Ketut said.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ketut, the military training attended by the\nparticipants does not emphasise physical ability, but rather the\nformation of mentality, character, cooperation, and problem-solving\nskills. He claimed that the military training programme is structured in\na measured way, taking into account the participants\u2019 backgrounds as\ncivilians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to emphasise that this activity is not aimed at turning\nparticipants into soldiers or military members. The participants remain\nin their civilian professions and assignments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The death of a prospective village cooperative manager undergoing\ntraining at the State Defence Education Unit in Kalimantan brought the\ntotal number of fatalities to five. The identity of the most recently\ndeceased participant is Nola Dya Sari, who passed away on Friday\nevening, 26 June 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Nola complained of shortness of breath accompanied by a fever at\n18:45 WIB. The education unit\u2019s medical team then provided initial\ntreatment and referred Nola to the emergency department of Singkawang\nHospital. However, Nola was subsequently referred to Abdul Aziz Regional\nGeneral Hospital in Singkawang for further treatment.<\/p>\n<p>During the treatment process, Nola\u2019s heart stopped, prompting doctors\nto perform cardiac resuscitation and cardioversion. However, Nola\u2019s life\ncould not be saved. At 21:03 WIB, Nola was declared dead. Ketut stated\nthat the results of Nola\u2019s medical evaluation are still being\ninvestigated to obtain a comprehensive picture of the cause of death of\nthe deceased, who had a record of being overweight.<\/p>\n<p>In the early hours of Friday, 26 June 2026, another prospective\ncooperative manager died while attending military training at the\nIII\/Siliwangi Regional Military Command. The participant was named\nMuhammad Rifki Renaldi Gunawan. Based on the medical resume and special\nreport, the cause of Rifki\u2019s death was a lung infection with medical\ncomplications. His health history also contained information regarding\nhypertension and obesity.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the Defence Ministry had also confirmed the news of three\nprospective cooperative managers who died during basic military training\nfor the reserve component command. The three were Novia Rahmadhani\nSihotang, Anisa Muyassaroh, and Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq.<\/p>\n<p>These three participants died after experiencing a decline in their\nhealth condition. Novia, who attended training at the Air Force\nDoctrine, Education, and Training Development Command Language Centre in\nJakarta, died on Tuesday, 23 June 2026. She was recorded as having a\nhistory of tuberculosis.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Anisa died on 18 June 2026 after suffering heat stroke\nwhile attending training at the Mulawarman Regional Military Command\nMain Regiment Education Unit in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. Yonanda was\ndeclared dead due to cardiac arrest on 17 June 2026 while attending\ntraining at the Army Combat Training Centre Education Unit in Baturaja,\nOgan Komering Ulu Regency, South Sumatra.<\/p>\n<p>According to Ketut, the five deceased participants had been declared\nto have passed health screening after undergoing laboratory, blood,\nurine, pregnancy tests, X-rays, and ultrasound examinations. However,\nthe medical conditions of the five were different. \u201cAll participants\nreceived medical treatment according to procedure, both at the unit\u2019s\nhealth facilities and at the referral hospital,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
