Jakarta \u2013 Indonesia\u2019s Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has\nconfirmed that the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) will deploy\npersonnel in phases to join the International Stabilisation Force (ISF)\nfor peacekeeping operations in Gaza.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, in phases, because the number is substantial,\u201d Sjafrie stated\nduring a press conference at the Defence Ministry on Thursday.<\/p>\n
According to Sjafrie, the TNI initially prepared 20,000 troops for\ndeployment with the ISF. However, based on several considerations, the\nTNI ultimately decided to deploy only 8,000 personnel.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out other nations are only sending hundreds, hundreds each.\nSo we\u2019re prepared with 8,000. But what\u2019s most important is that if the\nsituation doesn\u2019t conflict with national interests, we proceed with the\ntask,\u201d Sjafrie explained.<\/p>\n
To date, Sjafrie could not confirm when TNI forces would be\ndispatched to Gaza. His ministry is still awaiting decisions from the\nBoard of Peace (BoP) and a de-escalation of the heightened geopolitical\nsituation.<\/p>\n
Whilst awaiting the deployment timeline, Sjafrie assured that the TNI\nwould continue preparing its forces for deployment at any time. \u201cOur\nreadiness is part of our operational alert status.
