        "content": "<p>Head of Information for the General Secretariat of the Ministry of\nDefence, Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, revealed that TNI\nretirees provided input and analysis on the letter of intent (LoI)\nregarding overflight clearance or permission for crossing Indonesian\nairspace, as proposed by the United States (US). The Ministry of\nDefence, he said, is still studying the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe retirees naturally have considerations and very good analyses,\nso it may also be discussed with relevant ministries and agencies, as\nwell as the DPR, regarding that letter of intent,\u201d Rico told reporters\nafter the meeting between the Defence Minister and the retirees at the\nMinistry of Defence office in Central Jakarta on Friday (24\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Rico continued that Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has already\nmet directly with US representatives. The results of that meeting were\nbrought to today\u2019s fraternity forum with the retirees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was updated by Mr Defence Minister Sjafrie regarding the\nactivities he has carried out, especially the most recent one with\nSecretary of War Pete Hegseth some time ago. It was conveyed directly to\nthe retirees,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and US Secretary of Defence Pete\nHegseth agreed to establish the Major Defense Cooperation Partnership\n(MDCP) on Monday (13\/4). The Ministry of Defence stated that the MDCP\ndoes not regulate cooperation regarding access to Indonesian airspace\nfor the US military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is not included in the MDCP,\u201d said Head of Defence Information\nBureau (Karo Infohan) of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of\nDefence, Brigadier General TNI Rico Ricardo Sirait, quoted by Antara on\nTuesday (14\/4).<\/p>\n<p>Rico conveyed that the points of cooperation regarding permission for\nUS aircraft activities in Indonesian airspace are still being considered\nby the Indonesian government. Rico said the Ministry of Defence\nprioritises Indonesian sovereignty, national interests, and compliance\nwith applicable national and international law.<\/p>\n<p>Rico noted that the signed agreement contains cooperation on\ndeveloping defence technology capacity, improving operational readiness,\nprofessional military education, and strengthening defence personnel\nrelations between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis cooperation is seen as an opportunity to strengthen national\ndefence capacity, but it will still be carried out within the framework\nof active independent foreign policy, national interests, and full\nrespect for state sovereignty,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
