Defamation trial postponed again<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): An absence of judges postponed for a second time
\nthe trial of a printer charged with defaming President Soeharto.<\/p>\n
The court announced yesterday that two of the three judges
\nmeant to hear the case were absent because they were
\nparticipating in a course in Bandung, West Java.<\/p>\n
Two weeks ago the trial was postponed because two judges were
\non leave.<\/p>\n
The defendant, Andi Syahputra, 32, stands accused of printing
\na magazine containing offending articles defaming President
\nSoeharto.<\/p>\n
The magazine, Suara Independen, which is critical of the
\nIndonesian government was published in Australia and did not have
\nan Indonesian publishing permit. It is considered illegal.<\/p>\n
Andi was arrested last October after police raided a printing
\nshop in South Jakarta and confiscated 3,000 copies of the
\nmagazine.<\/p>\n
Yesterday's session was meant to hear the testimony of
\nNuryanto, an employee of another printing shop from which Andi
\nallegedly ordered negative films of the magazine. (13)<\/p>",
