A deer was fatally struck by a car on the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road (Tol Serpan) in Lebak Regency, Banten, near the Rangkasbitung toll gate, but the driver emerged unharmed. Officials suspect the deer may have been from a nearby enclosure, as the area is not its natural habitat, and they are addressing frequent animal crossings by installing fences. The incident highlights ongoing efforts to complete Section 2 of the toll road, which was temporarily closed for construction and is set to fully open in the second half of the year, improving travel times to key destinations in Banten during holidays and tourism seasons.

Lebak, VIVA – A deer on the Serang-Panimbang Toll Road (Tol Serpan)
in Lebak Regency, Banten, specifically at KM 88 near the Rangkasbitung
Toll Gate (GT), was killed after being struck by a car, though the
driver survived unscathed.

Strategic Marketing Manager of Wika Serpan, Muhammad Albagir,
contacted in Lebak on Saturday, stated that the incident involving the
deer being hit by a car occurred on Thursday morning, 26 March 2026.

He explained that the driver was just about to exit the Rangkasbitung
GT when suddenly a deer crossed the road, resulting in a collision with
the vehicle travelling at moderate speed.

The car driver was unharmed and in good health, with no injuries,
while the vehicle sustained dents to the front. The animal’s carcass has
been evacuated by officials to ensure smooth traffic flow.

He suspects the deer was likely a pet or from a breeding facility, as
the area is not a natural habitat for such wildlife.

He noted that animals frequently cross the Tol Serpan, including
monitor lizards, wild dogs, and civets.

Therefore, the Tol Serpan operators are anticipating and securing
vulnerable locations prone to animal crossings by installing fences.

“We hope that with this fencing, wild animals will not cross the Tol
Serpan,” he said.

He added that Section 2 of Tol Serpan, the
Rangkasbitung-Cikulur-Cileles route, was temporarily closed on Thursday
(26/3) at 17:00 WIB, and the toll road has served 150,000 vehicles
during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return traffic.

Following its functional operation, Section 2 of Tol Serpan is
planned to open fully in the second half of this year.

With the operation of Section 2 Rangkasbitung-Cikukur-Cileles on 12
March 2026, Tol Serpan shortens travel times for road users heading to
Serang, Lebak, and Pandeglang during Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return
traffic, as well as tourism.

During this period, many people visit tourist destinations such as
Tanjung Lesung in Pandeglang Regency, southern Banten beaches, and the
Baduy Tribe in Lebak Regency.

“We are carrying out the temporary closure of
Rangkasbitung-Cikulur-Cileles to complete construction work and ensure
more optimal service standards,” said Albagir.
