Decreasing access to Anyer Beach<\/p>\n
SERANG, West Java: Public access to Anyer Beach has been
\nalmost completely restricted by the construction of hotels and
\nbungalows along the shore, according to Serang Regent Sukron
\nRoshadi.<\/p>\n
Sukron said that the property-holders concerned, which he
\ndescribed as mostly \"big people from Jakarta,\" have completely
\nignored the by-laws which require developers to provide access
\nroads to the beach, Antara reported. \"Very few of them observe
\nthe regulation,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The regent made the remarks yesterday during the inauguration
\nof the Hotel Ferry Merak, which was attended by Director General
\nfor Tourism Andi Mappi Sammeng.<\/p>\n
Andi agreed about the need to clamp down on the recalcitrant
\nowners of hotels and bungalows because, he said, their buildings
\nhave obstructed access to the beach for tourists, fishermen and
\nlocal people.<\/p>\n
The new hotel is owned by Sumpono Bayuadji, the former
\ndirector general for land transportation. It is intended to
\nbecome a three-star hotel targeting guests who wish to stay one
\nnight before or after making the ferry crossing between Merak and
