        "content": "<p>The number of people buried in the collapse of a waste mountain in\nZone 4 of the Bantargebang Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Bekasi, West\nJava, has risen to four. The deceased are a coffee merchant, truck\ndrivers, and waste pickers who were at the location.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe deceased are identified as S (60), a coffee merchant at the\nsite; EW (26), a waste picker; DS (22), a truck driver from Semper\nBarat, Cilincing, North Jakarta; and IS (40), who also worked as a truck\ndriver,\u201d stated Metro Bekasi City Police Chief Brigadier General Kusumo\nWahyu Bintoro in his statement, citing Antara news agency on Monday (9\nMarch 2026).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fatalities, two truck drivers survived the\nincident: J and R.<\/p>\n<p>The collapse occurred in the DKI Jakarta Waste Management Site (TPST)\nZone 4C, RT 004 RW 004, Cikiwul Village, Bantargebang District on\nSunday. The collapsed waste pile blocked road access in the TPST area\nand struck a coffee stall and several garbage trucks operating in the\nvicinity.<\/p>\n<p>Police suspect there may still be other victims buried under the\ncollapse. Based on preliminary data, the total number of victims is\nestimated at around ten people, comprising five garbage truck drivers\nand five local residents engaged in waste picking activities.<\/p>\n<p>A security officer at the TPST first discovered the collapse whilst\nconducting a security check of the area after resting at a coffee stall.\nThe witness heard people shouting about the collapse and then saw the\nwaste mountain suddenly collapse, blocking the road and striking the\nstall and several garbage trucks. After the incident, this information\nwas immediately disseminated through the TPST security communication\ngroup, and personnel rushed to the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Upon receiving the information, Bantargebang Police Station\nimmediately went to the location to conduct inspections, record victim\ndata, and assist with the evacuation process. The search and rescue\noperation continues with the use of heavy machinery, including\nexcavators.<\/p>\n<p>The evacuation process involves various entities, including the\nmilitary and police, the Bekasi City and DKI Jakarta disaster management\nagencies (BPBD), Bekasi City Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the\nEnvironmental Health Service, Bekasi City Fire and Rescue Service, the\nIndonesian Red Cross (PMI), volunteers, and officials from Bantargebang\nDistrict and Sumur Batu Village.<\/p>\n<p>The Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri and\nMetro Jaya Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Dekananto Eko Purwono\nalso went to the scene to oversee the evacuation process and ensure that\nvictim handling is conducted to the fullest extent. Both issued\ninstructions to the combined personnel to focus on searching for victims\nbelieved to still be buried under the waste collapse.<\/p>\n<p>Material losses from this incident remain under documentation by the\nauthorities.
