Death sentence for murderers<\/p>\n
BOGOR: The Cibinong District Court sentenced two men to death on
\nWednesday for murdering a man and then mutilating his body to
\nconceal their crime on June 20 last year.<\/p>\n
"The murder was premeditated as the defendants planned to
\nsteal the victim's motorcycle," presiding judge Marsudin
\nNainggolan told the court.<\/p>\n
The defendant, Benged Siahaan, who is transvestite sex worker
\nwho goes by the name of Lilis, and his accomplice Hero Lamia,
\naccepted the verdict in different ways.<\/p>\n
"You lied too much, Nged. Why have I been sentenced to
\ndeath ...," Hero cried, while struggling to get loose from the
\nhandcuffs, while Benged remained calm after the verdict was read
\nout by the judge.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Isrofi had earlier demanded that the court sentence
\nBenged to death and impose a life sentence on Hero.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor also proposed four years in jail for the two
\nother defendants, Benged's wife Nursumiyati Prawirosumito and
\nfriend Surip alias Jumari Rasdan, for aiding and abetting the
\nmurderers.<\/p>\n
The court sentenced both of them to three-and-a-half-year
\nterms. The sentences were less than the prosecution had sought
\nwith the court saying they were unaware of the murderers'
\nintentions.<\/p>\n
Zaenabun, the wife of victim Abdul Kadir, said following the
\nverdict and sentencing, "I am delighted with the judges'

JAKARTA: Police arrested on Wednesday a car thief, Adrian, 29,
\nat the National Police Headquarters on Jl. Trunojoyo, South
\nJakarta, while he was attempting to open a car door.<\/p>\n
Adrian was nabbed after the car's owner, Adj. Sr. Comr. Helmy
\nM. Daud of the elite mobile brigade (Brimob), who had left his
\ncar to make a phone call, saw that the former was trying to open
\nhis car.<\/p>\n
Aiming his pistol, Helmy apprehended Adrian. From Adrian,
\nHelmy also seized an FN gun and 10 letter-T keys.<\/p>\n
Adrian admitted that it was the second time he had stolen a
\ncar at police headquarters. The first occasion was last year.<\/p>\n
Helmy said he sold stolen cars for Rp 2 million (US$227) to a
\nformer policeman, Brig. Solehan, who had been dismissed from the
\npolice.<\/p>\n
Solehan is still at large.<\/p>\n
Helmy took Adrian to Taman Puring police station for further

JAKARTA: A thug was stabbed to death by an acquaintance in the
\nSungai Bambu market in Papanggo, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta,
\nover Rp 2,000 (22 US cents).<\/p>\n
The thug, Mohammad Kosim, 20, who was drunk at the time of the
\nargument, reportedly asked his friend Eko, alias Acong, for Rp
\n2,000. Kosim also threatened Eko with a knife.<\/p>\n
Eko refused to give him the money and the pair become involved
\nin a heated quarrel.<\/p>\n
Eko is reported to have then stabbed Kosim repeatedly.<\/p>\n
The victim suffered severe wounds to his forehead, right eye,
\nneck, chest, stomach, back and wrist. He died en route to the
\nnearby Sukamulya Hospital.<\/p>\n
"We arrested the suspect, Eko, this morning," said First Insp.
\nY. Seman, an officer with the North Jakarta Police.<\/p>\n
Police sent Kosim's body to Cipto Mangunkusumo General

BOGOR: Bogor Regional Police Chief Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam
\nhas urged all his police officers in Bogor to grow their own
\ntomatoes using hydroponics in their yards as a way to increase
\ntheir income.<\/p>\n
"It is my hope that all police officers will grow tomatoes. It
\nwill help them to raise their income and prevent them from taking
\nbribes," he said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Bogor regional police covers Bogor, Sukabumi and Cianjur,
\nwhich are all in West Java province.<\/p>\n
Anton, who is a former city police spokesman, said that the
\nhydroponic tomatoes grew very easily. The police officers can
\nalso sell their tomatoes through a police cooperative.<\/p>\n
According to him, an expert on hydroponics from New Zealand is
