In Saudi Arabia an Indonesian woman worker could not escape
\nthe death sentence and she was beheaded. Another woman worker,
\nNasiroh, was apparently spared from the death sentence and was
\nsentenced to four years of imprisonment instead.<\/p>\n
As a layman, I keep wondering: is Islamic syariah that
\nsadistic? I imagine that experts in Islamic law from Moslem
\ncountries hold consultations in order to reach a common
\nperception on the implementation of Islamic law, particularly
\nconcerning qishash (the death penalty).<\/p>\n
As far as I know, since the age of the Prophet until the era
\nof Khulafaur Rasyidin, Islamic law was implemented based on
\naccurate, wise and articulate considerations. For example, a
\nperson was found guilty of stealing during a difficult time. The
\nthief was dying of starvation, while most of his neighbors were
\nrich but stingy. In spite of his guilt, the thief's hands were
\nnot cut off. On the contrary, the rich neighbors were penalized.<\/p>\n
My conclusion is that Islam does not tolerate the act of
\nstealing. But, more detestable is the action or condition that
\ncompels someone to steal.<\/p>\n
