        "content": "<p>Dayak, Madurese women hold meeting<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: Members of a communication forum for Dayak and<br>\nMadurese women, or Dara Arum as the forum is named, gathered here <br>\nin Yogyakarta on Saturday for a six-day meeting to discuss peace-<br>\nkeeping efforts between the two conflicting communities.<\/p>\n<p>Held under the central theme of \"Strengthening the Role and <br>\nCapacity of Dayak and Madurese Women to Build Peace,\" the meeting <br>\nin Yogyakarta is the forum's second national consolidation <br>\nmeeting.<\/p>\n<p>\"Through the meeting we would like to urge the government to <br>\nprovide more room for women to actively participate in the peace <br>\nmaking process in Indonesia,\" Yooke Adelina, an organizer of the <br>\nevent said.<\/p>\n<p>Established in February 2003 following the 2001 ethnic <br>\nconflict between Madurese and Dayak communities in the Central <br>\nKalimantan town of Sampit, Dara Arum aimed at helping create <br>\npeace between the two conflicting ethnic communities through <br>\nvarious activities involving women.<\/p>\n<p>So far, according to Yooke, women have always been <br>\nmarginalized in such efforts, regardless of their strategic role <br>\nin the family, as it is mostly women who are responsible for the <br>\neducation of their children as well as implanting moral values <br>\nwithin the family.<\/p>\n<p>Some 40 members of Dara Arum from both Central Kalimantan and <br>\nMadura are participating in the meeting, which will close on June <br>\n15. -- JP<\/p>",
