Datang Telecom displays latest products<\/p>\n
Datang Telecom Technology Co. Ltd. (DTT), a large-scale high-
\ntech enterprise from China, has sent an exhibition team to the
\nTechno Pre-Eminence -- Connectivity Indonesia 2002 with a mission
\nof grabbing a share of Indonesia's telecommunications market.<\/p>\n
\"By taking part in Techno Pre-Eminence -- Connectivity
\nIndonesia 2002, Datang Telecom will do its best to enter the
\nIndonesian market,\" said Wang Pei, the leader of the exhibition
\nteam.<\/p>\n
Techno Pre-Eminence -- Connectivity Indonesia 2002 is a four-
\nday event for an international exhibition and conference on
\ninformation and communication technology (ICT), which is to open
\nat the Jakarta Convention Center on Monday.<\/p>\n
Wang, who is also the project manager of DTT's international
\ndepartment, said that her company, in cooperation with its local
\npartner, PT Netwave Maju Abadi, aimed to provide advanced
\nequipment, technology and services for the construction of
\nIndonesia's telecommunications projects.<\/p>\n
At this week's exhibition, she said, her company would focus
\non the promotion of its optical transmission equipment.<\/p>\n
The products to be exhibited were the TranSmartTM Series
\nOptical Transmission Equipment, Network Access Equipment, Private
\nLine Access Equipment and Ethernet Switch (desktop), she said.<\/p>\n
The TranSmartTM Series Optical Transmission Equipment
\nconsisted of SDH Optical Transmission System (STM-16 rack type)
\nand SDH Optical Transmission System (STM-1 desktop), while the
\nNetwork Access Equipment included LinkMasterA-100TM ADSL
\nEquipment (desktop). The Private Line Access Equipment would
\ninclude the SCAPCM PCM Desktop Equipment (desktop).<\/p>\n
\"Besides that, Datang Telecom will also introduce its
\nmicrowave equipment, switching systems and other products to
\npotential Indonesian buyers,\" Wang added.<\/p>\n
Apart from microwave equipment, switching systems, DTT's main
\nproducts also include transmission equipment, network access
\nequipment, mobile communications systems, data communications
\nequipment, software and microelectronics.<\/p>\n
DTT, which was established by scholars who graduated from U.S.
\nuniversities and is affiliated to an academy, offers products
\nwith a competitive edge not only in terms of price but also in
\nquality, because its products are developed through research and
\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
DTT was founded through investment capital and mainly
\ninitiated by the China Academy of Telecommunications Technology
\n(CATT) from the Ministry of Information Industry. CATT, the
\ncontrolling shareholder of the company, was founded in 1957 and
\nis the largest professional research institution of
\ntelecommunications technology with the strongest R&D capability
\nand widest R&D fields. It has been shouldering the task of
\ninnovations and developments in the field of information and
\ncommunications technology.<\/p>\n
The company began as the Xi'an Datang Telephone Corporation, a
\njoint venture between CATT, the l0th Research Institute of the
\nMPT and International Telephone and Teledata, Inc. (ITTI), a
\ncompany begun by a group of Chinese scholars in the United
\nStates. Thus, DTT is a high-tech telecommunications company
\nformed through the strength of a national research institute,
\ncoupled with the expertise of Chinese scholars studying abroad.<\/p>\n
On Aug. 7, l998, DTT issued a total of l00 million A-share
\nstocks on the Shanghai Stock Exchange at 5.98 yuan per share, out
\nof which 75 million shares were sold to the public, l5 million to
\nfunds, and l0 million to employees. The company held an opening
\nceremony on Aug. 28, l998, and registered itself in Beijing's
\nHaidian New Technology Development and Trial Zone on Sept. 2l,
\nl998. One month later, the company issued public shares on the
\nShanghai Stock Exchange.<\/p>\n
DTT has thus far presented a series of state of the art and
\nworld-level products in such fields as mobile communications
\nsystems and equipment, large capacity SPC switches, optical
\ncommunications equipment, digital microwave equipment, full-
\nservice access network equipment, telecommunications software and
\nsystems integration, and integrated circuits.<\/p>\n
It has also opened up new service fields like system
\nintegrations and telecommunications VAS. During the following two
\nyears since the company was listed on the stock exchange, the
\ncompany has obtained 41 network entry certificates from the
\nMinistry of Information Industry, nine from the Broadcasting and
\nTelecommunications Ministry and 13 from the military.<\/p>\n
Facing the tide of whole world economic integration and the
\nchallenge of China's entry into the World Trade Organization
\n(WTO), DTT seeks to expand its business, select and unite the
\noutstanding cooperation with other manufacturers, establish
\nstrategic cooperation alliances, reduce operating costs,
\nstrengthen its competition ability and resist market risks.<\/p>\n
DTT, therefore, is inviting communications electronics
\n(software and hardware) suppliers, as well as producing and
\nprocessing manufacturers, for cooperation with mutual benefits.<\/p>\n
DTT boasts its strength on its high concern for R&D. It uses
\nthe majority of its investment capital as funding for key
\nprojects and 10 percent of its revenues for R&D activities.
\nEmployees engaged in R&D account for 4l percent of the company's
\ntotal staff.<\/p>\n
