Indonesian Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad highlighted the government's newly formed Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Labour Welfare (Satgas PHK) as a swift mechanism to address worker concerns, including wages, outsourcing, and potential redundancies, during an audience with labour unions on May Day 2026. Labour leaders urged Parliament to tackle job insecurity, noting that 40% of the 153 million workforce are non-permanent employees facing rights violations, sub-minimum wages, and reprisals for union activities. President Prabowo Subianto affirmed the government's commitment to protecting workers, pledging assistance or state takeovers of struggling firms to prevent layoffs and ensure employment stability.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of
Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that various labour issues can
be addressed more quickly through the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs
and Labour Welfare (Satgas PHK), which has been established by the
government.

The statement was made by Dasco in response to demands from labour
unions during an audience with representatives of the International
Labour Day or May Day 2026 action masses at the parliamentary complex in
Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday.

“Regarding wage issues, the outsourcing system, and problems related
to planned layoffs and so on, these can be brought to it (Satgas PHK) to
cut through lengthy chains. There, with representatives from all
colleagues, information can be obtained quickly,” he said.

Workers can convey the problems they face, including layoffs, to the
task force for subsequent anticipation.

“Earlier, information was also provided to the government from the
worker colleagues about several companies planning layoffs in the next
two to three months. This has now entered the Satgas PHK desk for
immediate anticipation,” he stated.

Through the task force, Dasco conveyed that the government is
determined to prevent layoffs.

“Earlier, the President also stated that if companies are indeed
facing difficulties, they will be assisted, or even if they are no
longer able, they will be taken over so that workers still have a place
to work,” he said.

In the audience, the General Chairman of the Indonesian Labour Union
Alliance Confederation (KASBI), Unang Sunarno, urged the DPR to pay
attention to job security guarantees in Indonesia, particularly
regarding outsourcing, contract work, internships, and daily
workers.

According to him, 40 percent of the total 153 million workforce
consists of non-permanent workers, while labour market practices are
deemed worse than the regulations governing them.

“The informalisation of the employment system is becoming more
massive, and this impacts the rights received by fellow workers because
they are not permanent employees, so many rights are violated,” said
Sunarno.

He mentioned that not a few non-permanent workers receive wages below
the minimum wage standard, long working hours, and no social
security.

“When fellow workers who are not permanent employees want to voice
their aspirations or even form labour unions, automatically the
employers suppress or even carry out unilateral layoffs,” he said.

It is known that President Prabowo Subianto announced the formation
of the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Labour Welfare in his
speech at the International Labour Day commemoration held at Monas
Field, Jakarta, on Friday morning.

“I have issued Presidential Decree Number 10 of 2026 on the
establishment of the Task Force for Mitigating Layoffs and Labour
Welfare,” said the President.

Prabowo emphasised that the government sides with workers, especially
those threatened with job loss. He also affirmed the state’s readiness
to take firm steps if there are companies unable to survive.

“Do not worry, we will defend the interests of workers.
