Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco\nAhmad stated that all political party fractions within the DPR have\nexpressed their readiness to proceed with the discussion of the revision\nto Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections. Dasco made this\nannouncement following a meeting with the leadership of Commission II of\nthe DPR.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, he explained that Commission II, which oversees\ngovernment and electoral affairs, also declared its readiness to revisit\nthe revision of the Election Law, which had previously been postponed.\n\u201cAll parties within Commission II are ready to discuss the changes,\nincluding both the academic manuscript and the draft of each article,\u201d\nDaspor said at the DPR\/MPR Complex on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.<\/p>\n
He added that Commission II, as the parliamentary body responsible\nfor the revision, will open avenues for public participation to gather\nvarious inputs. According to Dasco, public participation is a vital\ncomponent of any law-making process. \u201cTherefore, the DPR\u2019s readiness\nregarding the Election Law revision should not be doubted,\u201d he\nremarked.<\/p>\n
However, he did not provide a detailed timeline for the completion of\nthese discussions. Dasco emphasised that the deliberation process must\nbe conducted carefully to ensure that the resulting legislative product\nis not subject to further challenges in the Constitutional Court. \u201cAs\npreviously stated, we will make this revision a DPR initiative\nproposal,\u201d said the Daily Chairman of the Gerindra Party.<\/p>\n
Previously, Commission II of the DPR held meetings with several\nexperts to gather input regarding electoral matters. The last discussion\non the Election Law revision took place on 10 March 2026. On 13 April\n2026, Commission II was scheduled to continue discussions by listening\nto the findings of the DPR Expert Body, but the meeting was postponed.\nCommission II member Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung confirmed the agenda\nexisted but noted he was unaware of the specific reasons for the\npostponement.<\/p>\n
Dasco had previously explained that the DPR Expert Body (BKD) was\nrequested by the DPR leadership to conduct a study regarding the\nElection Law revision. However, the results of that study had not yet\nbeen presented to the leadership or were deemed not to have met the\nnecessary requirements.
