In his message, Daryono\nreminded the public that it is not earthquakes that kill, but unsafe\nbuildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy message to the public: earthquakes don\u2019t kill \u2014 it is unsafe\nbuildings that kill,\u201d Daryono told reporters on Sunday (2\/15\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>He therefore urged the public to ensure their buildings are\nearthquake-resistant. He also called on people to understand the risks\nof the areas where they live.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake sure your home is built or renovated according to\nearthquake-resistant principles. Know the risks of your residential\narea,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Daryono also reminded people to know what to do during an earthquake.\nHe urged the public not to be easily swayed by hoaxes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrain your family to know what to do when an earthquake strikes.\nDon\u2019t be easily provoked by hoaxes \u2014 refer to official sources for\ninformation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For him, mitigation is not about waiting for help but about building\nawareness. He said that tectonic plate movement cannot be stopped, but\nthe risks can be reduced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot stop the movement of tectonic plates, but we can stop\nearthquakes from becoming disasters by reducing the risks,\u201d Daryono\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest press release shared by BMKG, the position of\nBMKG Director of Earthquake and Tsunami is now filled by an acting\nofficial, Rahmat Triyono. BMKG Public Relations Head Taufan Maulana\nconfirmed the news of Daryono\u2019s resignation, saying Daryono has entered\nretirement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is correct \u2014 he has entered retirement,\u201d Taufan said when asked\nfor separate confirmation.<\/p>",
