        "content": "<p>DAP may make comeback attempt<\/p>\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Malaysia's largest opposition party, which<br>\nlast week said goodbye to northern Penang state after being<br>\ntrounced in national polls, has hinted it may make a comeback<br>\nattempt in the showcase industrial hub.<\/p>\n<p>\"Goodbyes are not necessarily forever,\" Karpal Singh, deputy<br>\nchairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), was quoted saying<br>\nby The Sunday Times.<\/p>\n<p>The DAP had made a valiant attempt to wrest control of Penang<br>\nfrom Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's ruling National Front<br>\ncoalition in the country's ninth general elections but was<br>\nhumiliated in a crushing defeat.<\/p>\n<p>Mahathir's coalition, riding on its record of robust economic<br>\ngrowth, swept 32 of 33 state seats in Penang and all but three of<br>\nthe 11 parliamentary seats.<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide, the Front scooped 162 of the 192 parliamentary<br>\nseats -- giving Mahathir a comfortable 84.4 percent majority in<br>\nparliament -- and retained control of 12 of 13 states.<\/p>",
