IM Danny Juswanto continued his winning run by beating Chinese
\nGM Zhu Chen in the penultimate round of the 10-round Makita-
\nLakoni International Grand Master Chess Tournament here on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
Danny forced the world women's champion to surrender after 59
\nmoves and jumped for a tied top spot with GM Antoaneta Stefanova
\nof Bulgaria, each with six points.<\/p>\n
Stefanova let Danny catch her at the top after she could only
\ndraw with IM Hoang Thanh Trang of Vietnam in the Graha Kita Karya
\nbuilding, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The co-leaders will meet each other in the final round on
\nWednesday, in which the Indonesian contender will seek to avenge
\nhis defeat of their first meeting.<\/p>\n
The winner of the game will be crowned the Makita champion. A
\ndraw will still give GM Utut Adianto, currently half a point
\nbehind the front-runners, the chance to share the top prizes,
\nprovided that he wins his final game against Hoang.<\/p>\n
On the other board, Indonesia's young star IM Susanto
\nMegaranto, who has suffered seven losses on the trot and
\ncollected 1.5 points, will try to take some pride in his game
\nagainst Zhu.<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, Danny admitted that as their Nimzo game was
\nnearing the end he was looking for a draw when Zhu, who held
\nwhite, made a wrong move with her king.<\/p>\n
Danny apparently capitalized on his opponent's blunder to
\npress ahead with his rook and knight. Zhu was forced to give up
\nhis rook for a knight, after which she shook Danny's hand in
\nsubmission.<\/p>\n
\"As the match was about to conclude, I would have been happy
\nwith a draw, but Zhu Chen made the wrong move with the king. It
\nwas fatal,\" Danny told The Jakarta Post after the game.<\/p>\n
Zhu Chen was obviously upset with her defeat and immediately
\nleft the room.<\/p>\n
Tournament favorite, Utut, recovered from Monday's mishap, in
\nwhich he squandered the chance to win over Stefanova, to collect
\nanother point with a win over Susanto in 55 moves.<\/p>\n
\"He was just better than me,\" Susanto said, adding that he had
\nbeen trying hard for a draw but to no avail.<\/p>\n
Utut praised his 16-year-old apprentice, saying that Susanto
\nplayed well. \"It is not easy to take on him,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Stefanova expects a tough game against Danny in the
\nfinal round.<\/p>\n
\"It will be a tough game. I have met him twice and won both.
\nBut it does not mean that Wednesday's game will finish in the
\nsame way,\" said Stefanova, whose other win over Danny was
\nregistered during the 2002 Wismilak tournament in Surabaya, East
\nJava.<\/p>\n
