Unlike typical iPhone hacking methods\nthat are highly targeted and rarely encountered, DarkSword is instead\ndistributed widely through compromised websites.<\/p>\n<p>This means iPhones can be hacked merely by opening a malicious\nwebsite designed by hackers. The iPhone device can thus be compromised\nwithout the user\u2019s awareness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA large number of iOS users could lose all their personal data just\nby opening a popular site created by hackers,\u201d said iVerify CEO Rocky\nCole in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>DarkSword is known to target devices still running iOS 18, an older\nversion of the operating system (OS) before Apple released iOS 26.<\/p>\n<p>Although Apple has already issued security updates, Apple\u2019s latest\ndata indicates that about a quarter (approximately 20 percent) of iPhone\nusers are still using iOS 18.<\/p>\n<p>The total number of iOS users worldwide as of 2026 is around 1.4\nbillion.
