Dance-dramas to be staged at TIM<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A winner of many local and international awards
\nin traditional choreography, I Made Mariasa, will stage a
\nBalinese dance-drama with a romance-tragedy theme at Taman Ismail
\nMarzuki arts center tomorrow and Saturday.<\/p>\n
Made, 34, said over the weekend that the dance-drama was
\nderived from the Balinese legend of Jayaprana and Layonsari.<\/p>\n
"It will depict the separation and death of two lovers,
\nfollowing the wrath of an envious king," he said.<\/p>\n
Having performed at dance festivals in Malaysia, Singapore,
\nJapan, Guam, Lagos and Cairo, he hopes that next week's
\nperformance will bring about a better understanding of modern
\nIndonesian women's roles in society.<\/p>\n
Made said his performance would precede another dance-drama by
\nchoreographer Bekti Lasmini, 36.<\/p>\n
Bekti, who is currently teaching dance at the Jakarta Art
\nInstitute, explained that she would stage a traditional Betawi
\nmask-dance titled Jaka Pertaka.<\/p>\n
"The dance concentrates on a thought-provoking subject -- the
\nvalue of simple words and a promise," Bekti said.<\/p>\n
She said the dance revolved around someone who takes a vow,
\nJaka, his wife Ratna and the grandfather, Dewa.<\/p>\n
Like Made, Bekti has participated in several dance festivals
