A good industrial estate must help protect its coastline, marine
ecosystems and the surrounding coastal communities. PT Kawasan Industri
Terpadu Batang (KITB), a member of the Danareksa state-owned holding,
and the Directorate General of Marine Spatial Planning at the Ministry
of Marine Affairs and Fisheries are integrating industrial growth with
marine conservation through coastal planning in the Batang area, Central
Java. The collaboration was formalised with the signing of a cooperation
agreement on coastal planning and utilisation of water space in the
Batang area on Friday (5/6). This partnership is expected to blend
industrial growth with marine conservation through orderly marine
spatial planning, coastal ecosystem restoration, and community
empowerment within the Batang Industropolis Special Economic Zone. The
agreement covers four scopes: the implementation of marine spatial
planning, rehabilitation and restoration of coastal ecosystems,
strengthening human resource capacity, and policy dissemination. One
focus is blue carbon management through the conservation of coastal
ecosystems such as mangroves, which serve as carbon storage as well as
land protection. This cooperation is part of Danareksa holding’s
transformation into an integrated national industrial estate manager
through the Kawasan Industri Indonesia initiative. The holding currently
manages seven industrial estates spanning a total of 7,800 hectares,
housing more than 1,600 tenants from 25 countries and employing 300,000
workers. KITB is a National Strategic Project designated as the Batang
Industropolis Special Economic Zone through Government Regulation Number
12 of 2025. This cooperation aligns with the Asta Cita programme,
particularly in strengthening maritime sovereignty, continuing
downstream processing, and promoting equitable development. The
holding’s president director, Ngurah Wirawan, stated that they are
inviting all stakeholders to jointly realise development that is aligned
with conservation in Batang, so that this model can be replicated in
other areas, thus providing wider benefits for the economy and the
community.
",
