        "content": "<p>Located in Pedungan Village, Denpasar, the facility is designed to\naddress acute regional waste issues by converting refuse into\nelectricity using proven international technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The project follows a fast-tracked directive from Indonesian\nPresident Prabowo Subianto to resolve the country\u2019s mounting waste\ncrisis without triggering adverse environmental impacts.<\/p>\n<p>To deliver the project, Danantara\u2019s subsidiaries, PT Danantara\nInvestment Management (DIM) and PT Daya Energi Bersih Nusantara\n(Denera), selected a processing technology currently utilized in 50\ncountries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis morning is a very historic day for us, as this marks the\nfirst-ever groundbreaking for the Danantara Waste-to-Energy program here\nin Bali,\u201d said Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Danantara Indonesia, during the\nceremony in Denpasar on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Roeslani noted that the selected technology can process both fresh\nand legacy landfill waste seamlessly, pointing to successful\nimplementations he observed in East Asia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I visited several sites in China and Japan, these facilities\nwere incredibly clean,\u201d Roeslani said. \u201cIn China, one plant is situated\nright in the middle of an elite residential area because it is\ncompletely odorless. They even built a reading garden and a children\u2019s\nrecreation park behind it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The facility will serve the high-density agglomeration of Denpasar\nand Badung.<\/p>\n<p>Scheduled to begin operations in early 2028, the plant will process\n1,500 tons of waste per day, totaling over 500,000 tons annually, or\neffectively absorbing more than 40 percent of Bali\u2019s total waste\ngeneration.<\/p>\n<p>According to Pandu Patria Sjahrir, CEO of PT DIM, the project adhered\nto rigorous technical, legal, financial, and environmental vetting. The\nplant is engineered to meet strict European Union Industrial Emissions\nDirective (EU IED) standards.<\/p>\n<p>Environmental projections indicate the plant will reduce\nlandfill-related emissions by up to 80 percent and cut carbon emissions\nby 640,000 tons of CO2 per year.
