Danantara Begins Waste-to-Energy Plant Construction in Bali<\/p>\n

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Danantara Investment Management (DIM) has begun\nconstruction on the Waste-to-Energy Power Plant (PSEL) project in\nDenpasar, Bali. The groundbreaking of this project took place on\nWednesday, July 8, 2026.<\/p>\n
The Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating\nBoard (BKPM) as well as CEO of the Danantara Investment Management\nAgency, Rosan Roeslani, is optimistic that the project will be completed\nby the end of 2027. This is because the chosen partner has a proven\ntrack record and tested technology.<\/p>\n
He stated, \u201cThe technology used has been implemented in more than 50\ncountries and is capable of processing various types of waste, both new\nand old waste accumulations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rosan said that he has inspected several similar waste processing\nfacilities in China, Japan, and other countries. He observed that the\nconstructed facilities can operate without causing odor or disturbance\nto the surrounding communities.<\/p>\n
The presence of PSEL in Denpasar is expected to provide a solution to\nthe long-standing waste problem burdening Bali. It is also aimed at\nimproving environmental, health, safety, and waste management governance\naspects.<\/p>\n
The Chief Executive Officer of DIM, Pandu Sjahrir, mentioned that\nthis project, worth Rp3 trillion, is expected to create 1,200 green jobs\nand reduce the need for landfill sites by around 80 percent.<\/p>\n
The facility is built in accordance with the European Industrial\nEmissions Directive (EU IED) environmental standards. In addition to\naddressing waste issues, the project can also generate clean energy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is projected to reduce emissions from final processing sites\n(TPA) by up to 80 percent and reduce carbon emissions by approximately\n640,000 tons of CO2 per year,\u201d said Pandu.<\/p>\n
The electricity generated is sufficient to meet the needs of around\n100,000 households in Bali. The waste processing capacity exceeds\n500,000 tons per year, which is over 40 percent of Bali\u2019s total waste\naccumulation.<\/p>\n
Bali Governor Wayan Koster hopes that the project will be completed\nby October 2027. \u201cThe developer had promised that the project could be\ncompleted earlier, within 15 months. I hope it can be operational in\nDecember,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
If this can be achieved, then the waste problem in Bali, which has\nbeen a challenge for Balinese tourism, can be completely resolved under\nthe leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.<\/p>\n
Koster revealed that the preparations for construction, up to the\ngroundbreaking stage on the land previously owned by PT Pelindo, have\nprogressed well. The land provision was carried out by the Denpasar City\nGovernment, while the land preparation process was funded by the Badung\nRegency Government, costing Rp35 billion.<\/p>\n
The land preparation process was completed earlier than the target\ndate of June 30, 2026. Several traditional rituals were performed to\nfacilitate the construction of PSEL in Badung Regency.<\/p>\n
