The Danantara investment management agency has pledged its support for the construction of a Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility in Jambi City, with the project slated for tender in April to May 2026 and groundbreaking in the same year. The initiative, prioritised nationally, aims to process 1,000 tonnes of waste daily to generate electricity and includes supporting facilities like ash processing plants and green zones, addressing the city's current waste supply shortfall of around 450 tonnes per day through regional cooperation. This project follows President Prabowo Subianto's directives to tackle waste emergencies and produce renewable energy.

The Danantara investment management agency has assured support for
the construction of a Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility in Jambi City.
“This project is targeted to enter the tender stage soon in April to May
2026, followed by the groundbreaking in the same year,” said Danantara’s
Director of Project and Stakeholder Management, Maulana Muhammad, in
Jambi on Friday. According to him, the Jambi City Government has
demonstrated good preparedness, particularly in providing land in the
Talang Gulo Final Disposal Site (TPA) area, with more than five hectares
available suitable for the main facility construction. “This PSEL
project will be developed as a large-scale waste-to-energy facility with
a processing capacity of around 1,000 tonnes of waste per day, which not
only generates electricity but is also equipped with supporting
facilities such as a Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA) plant and a green
zone as part of environmental management,” said Maulana. He stated that
Jambi City has been included in the category of national priority areas,
making the acceleration of development a primary focus, and Danantara is
committed to overseeing the project’s realisation to ensure it proceeds
according to targets, with operations at the latest in 2028. The Jambi
City Government has prepared 21 hectares of land support in the Talang
Gulo TPA area, he said, but still faces challenges in meeting the raw
material waste supply, which currently only reaches around 450 tonnes
per day. “We hope this project can become a long-term solution for waste
management while producing environmentally friendly electricity for the
community, thus requiring cooperation with surrounding areas to ensure
waste supply availability for PSEL operations,” he said. Meanwhile,
Jambi Mayor Maulana continues to refine the preparedness of the Talang
Gulo TPA as the location for PSEL or waste-to-energy (WtE) development,
aimed at addressing the waste emergency issues at the TPA while
generating renewable energy, as a follow-up to President Prabowo
Subianto’s directives.
",
