Daimler-Benz upbeat on RI future<\/p>\n
In line with its ongoing strategy of globalization, Daimler-
\nBenz is increasing its focus on the most important markets around
\nthe world. The Asia-Pacific region is being given top priority.<\/p>\n
Today, the Asia-Pacific region already provides some Daimler-
\nBenz business units with more than 50 percent of their trade
\nvolume. The group currently achieves some 8 percent of its
\nturnover in Asia.<\/p>\n
Daimler-Benz Aerospace (Dasa), which has been present in
\nIndonesia since the 1970s, opened a representative office in
\nJakarta in January 1997 and now promotes a significant part of
\nits product range here.<\/p>\n
MTU and Adtranz are also maintaining their offices in Jakarta.
\nMTU\/Diesel Engine Business produces engines for yachts, power
\ngeneration units, rolling stock and dump trucks. Adtranz, the
\njoint venture of Daimler-Benz and ABB, is the world's leading and
\nmost complete rail systems supplier.<\/p>\n
Mercedes-Benz Group Indonesia (MBGI) consists of three
\ncompanies: PT German Motor Manufacturing, PT Star Motors
\nIndonesia and PT Star Engines Indonesia. MBGI has been in
\nIndonesia for 28 years with its own production and manufacturing
\nfacilities at Gunung Putri, West Java.<\/p>\n
The move by Dasa and MBGI to the Deutsche Bank building in
\nCentral Jakarta during the current economic situation underlines
\nthe commitment and trust of Daimler-Benz to the future of
\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
And despite falling sales this year, they are increasing their
\ncustomer care program. Mercedes-Benz Group Indonesia launched an
\nIntegrated Service Package in August 1998, which will give
\ncustomers additional value as they will enjoy free maintenance,
\nfree repairs and free service for two years without kilometer
\nlimitation.<\/p>\n
They also run a successful export business with the MB\/MBO 800
\nTurbo truck and bus chassis; the first Mercedes-Benz product
\ndesigned and developed by Indonesian engineers.<\/p>\n
This year, they will export about 1,600 MB-800 Turbos and will
\nincrease this figure to at least 2,500 next year.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, the domestic market is still and will remain
\nmost important for them. As Mercedes-Benz Group Indonesia
\npresident director Frank Messer said: \"We believe that Indonesia
\nwill be even stronger than before after having overcome the
\ncrisis and that also the automotive sector will play an
\nincreasingly important role in the future development of the
\ncountry, giving us promising opportunities.\"<\/p>",
