Dahlan dies of heart attack<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Dahlan Mansur Sutalaksana, a Ministry of Finance
\nofficial, died of a heart attack yesterday. He was buried at
\nSouth Jakarta's Tanah Kusir public cemetery yesterday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Dahlan, born in Bandung on March 15, 1939, is survived by a
\nwife and three children.<\/p>\n
He worked as an expert on capital market development and as
\nsecretary of the Monetary Council in 1994.<\/p>\n
Dahlan held several important positions at Bank Indonesia.
\nFrom 1978 to 1979 he was deputy head of the central bank's
\nBandung and Medan offices. From 1979 to 1984 he was head of the
\nbank's small-business section. In 1985 he became deputy head of
\nthe cooperative and small-scale loan department. From 1988 to
\n1994, Dahlan headed the money market and deposit department at
\nthe central bank.<\/p>\n
He was once the Ministry of Finance's spokesman.<\/p>\n
Dahlan received a Shogaku Shi degree in business and commerce
\nfrom the University of Keio, Tokyo, Japan in 1966. He received a
\nmaster's degree in public administration from Harvard
\nUniversity's JFK School of Government in 1975. In 1977 he got his
\nmaster's degree in economics and in 1978 a master's in political
\neconomy, both from Boston Massachusetts University.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Zainuddin Harahap, who discovered 52 strains of
\nhigh-quality rice, died after a long illness. He was given a
\nmilitary burial in Bogor on Saturday. (sur)<\/p>",
